Qualification

BTEC Business (Edexcel)

Introduction:

The BTEC in Business focuses on teaching you about real life businesses, all of which are located in Manchester. You will cover a variety of topics throughout the course, including learning about the different types of businesses, calculating business finances, recruiting new staff and making sales to customers. This is all tied together by making your own business plan in the final topic. These skills are in great demand and are recognised and highly valued by employers and colleges.

You will study 4 units:

  • Enterprise In The Business World.
  • Business Finance.
  • Sales and Personal Selling.
  • Recruitment, Selection and Employment.

Assessment:

Three units are assessed through coursework.  The Finance Unit is 25% of the course will be an external exam taken on computer.

 Personal Attributes Required:

You will need to be prepared to work hard and to organise your time well.

Future Plans:

Students gaining a BTEC Award in Business will have access to a range of career and further education opportunities. This is an ideal qualification if you wish to go straight into employment because it gives you an understanding of how businesses are organised and the importance of staff and customers.

If you wish to continue studying business, there are a large variety of further and higher education courses that are based around Business Studies, for example an A level in Business or a BTEC National course.

Homework Expectations:

There is an expectation that students will complete a range of written and research tasks on a weekly basis throughout the course.
