HEADTEACHER’S BLOG

As we reach the Half Term holiday there has been much to celebrate at the college this week as we moved another step closer to normal life. On Wednesday our Year 7 Boys Football Team played in what was the college’s first competitive fixture since lockdown. Indeed, it was the first time the boys have had an opportunity to wear the famous red and black shirts against external opposition since their arrival in September. That a game was being played was particularly significant, but the fact that the boys ran out comfortable 6-2 winners over Trinity would suggest that the future looks bright for the team. Well done to Mr Brennan and all of the boys who played.

Earlier this year a number of our Year 8 students took part in the UK Maths Challenge. The Mathematical Challenge is a 60-minute, multiple-choice competition aimed at students across the UK. It encourages mathematical reasoning, precision of thought, and fluency in using basic mathematical techniques to solve interesting problems. I am pleased to report that a number of students have received awards for the challenge. Amazingly, three of our students achieved the top award of Gold and have been invited to take part in the next stage of the competition, the Junior Kangaroo which will take place in June.

Congratulations to all of our winners who are:
Gold: Dharma (Best in School), Mohammad & Sienna.
Silver: Kussay, Sadik Kadiri, Zainab, Artelia, Zack, Alfie, Haaris & Abdul.
Bronze: Lewis, Esohe, Lydia, Alishba, Anthony, Alfred, Jack, Derek & Oscar, Alfie, Kacie, Brandon, Fifi, Ben, Tanya, Slade & Jacob.

Thank you and well done to the staff in the Maths Department for organising the entries.

Obviously, next week is a holiday, but the return on Monday 7th June will mark the start of the last week in college for our Year 11 students. We are extremely proud of our senior cohort and despite the current situation we intend to make their remaining time with us as enjoyable and valuable as possible. I am confident that despite restrictions we will be able to give them the send-off they deserve.

Enjoy the holiday everyone and keep safe.
